Lady in red

Earrings: Gift (Similar here) | Necklace: Hand me down (Similar here) | Rings: Hand me downs (Similar here and here)
Shoes: Circa Joan & David (Similar-ish here)
My bag goes both ways
Studies have shown that men perceive women who wear red as more sexually receptive while women perceive women dressed in red as sexual threats (Link for your knowledge) This is not why I chose to wear red, in case you were wondering. I just like the colour and it goes well with my skin tone.

These studies intrigue me and while I'm not really sure if I believe them wholeheartedly, I am inclined to keep them in mind when employing colour in my dressing. Like if I was going for a job interview, I guess I wouldn't wear red just in case. I wouldn't want any dudes thinking I'm receptive to anything other than a job and maybe some free food.

Thanks for reading, I do hope I didn't threaten you with my sexiness.

Green corridors

Dress: Smooch the Label
This was taken just before the storm so it was windy and wonderful
Shoes: ASOS | Bag: Balenciaga
Necklace: Limited Edition | Earrings: Chinatown (Similar here)
Ring: Tsumori Chisato (Similar here and here) I love this ring!!
The Singapore government puts a lot of money into the development and maintenance of parks, gardens, and nature reserves because of the great benefits to health and wellness. While I can't say I've ever been a huge plant fan (plants = bugs = bites = itchy = HULKSMASH!), but I'm all for the supposed peace and serenity it will bring, especially when I'm raging about the office.

However, since I pretty much manage to kill all plants under my care (even a cactus), instead of purchasing a potted from Ikea that will eventually just be potted soil, I wear it delightfully on my body. This way, since I've no window by my desk, I can just look down and zone out. That's how it works right?

Thanks for reading, but seriously, take some breaks and stare at some trees. Ohhhhhhhhhhhmmmmmmmm.

Delayed post this week because I declared a holiday for my brain to celebrate a friend's birthday on Friday night, a friend's marriage solemnisation and dinner and the impending lazy Sunday I felt entitled to after my busy week. Of course what this means is MORE OUTFITS! Yaaaaaayyy!!!

Thanks for reading, happy Hari Raya Puasa and yaaaaay for the long weekend!

Shiny happy people

Top: Seed (Similar here)
Skirt: State of Being
Earrings: Vintage (Similar-ish here and here)
Ring: Can't recall (Similar here) | Bag: Balenciaga
Shoes: Tommy Hilfiger (Similar and waaay nice here)
I'm quite the magpie so a lot of my clothes are pretty shiny and/or embellished but it's not always so easy to wear bling to the office, because you risk being branded 'disco' and make people think you're on your way to a party after work (which might be viewed as somewhat hedonistic for a Tuesday night).

Here are my tips for keeping the magpie happy by incorporating bling into your work wear:
  1. Keep it neutral: If you're going to be shiny, don't be too patterned. That's just distracting and better for a retro party. If you're having a retro party, please invite me.
  2. Turn down the skank: Less skin, more bling. If you're in a tight, shiny, short skirt at your work place, you're probably doing a different sort of work than I am. No judgement yo.
  3. Embellishments are your friends: Embellished neckline tops are lovely because you don't need to think about what necklace to wear. Lazy person style for the win.
  4. Not ready to be Rihanna (ie. Shine bright like a diamond)? Try a shiny cellphone case. Also makes for an exhausting hobby if you want the challenge of making it yourself with teeny tiny diamantes.
  5. Do Elizabeth Taylor: Adorn yourself with jewellery so big and shiny you could be in a museum.
Thanks for reading, CAW CAW CAW!!

Big black tent

Dress: ASOS | Necklace: Gift (Same here)
Not typically a fan of the high-low dress because it makes me look like I couldn't decide but this one makes me feel leggy so that's cool.
Bag: Nasty Gal (Similar here) | Bangle: Gift (Similar here) | Ring: Gift but I think it was Dorothy Perkins (Similar here)
Shoes: Beverly Feldman (Similar here)
Yesterday I had a brief whatsapp conversation with my sister (Mousie), who is living in New York,  and it went something like this:

Me: Mousie, does this neon yellow skirt and green, black, and white top match?
[I sent her a selfie of me wearing above mentioned attired posing in front of the mirror]

Mousie: Umm.... Hmm... Maybe?
[She said that but was probably thinking, 'Yeah it matches if you're colour-blind]

Me: Hmm yeah maybe not huh?
[She agreed emphatically]

Me: Do you think a navy blue top made of tinsel is too much for the office

Mousie: Yes, if you work in my office.
[Probably also wanted to follow that statement with, 'and you want to get fired.'

I concluded to her that I think sometimes I try too hard. But today was not one of those days. I just wanted to wear a big black tent. So I did. And it was AWESOME.

I don't think it's too shabby. I often forget that sometimes less is more.

Thanks for reading, I hope you have your Mousie equivalent and if you don't, I can share mine with you!

Art

Top: Nichii | Skirt: Dressabelle (Same here)
Shoes: Charles & Keith (Similar here)
Singapore is so hot so I can't do without my paper fans from Daiso (matching really not on purpose)
Take in some art
Necklace: Twentyeight Lane (Similar here) | Earrings: Diva (Similar here) | Rings: Gifts (Similar here and here)
When you're working in a corporate environment, things don't usually get that creative unless you count the paper clip art that I make whenever my hands are idle (basically just twisting them out of shape till it breaks. I call that 'deconstructive art' because I am an artist).

Imagine my joy when I found one of my favourite paintings on a skirt. It's culture for my butt you guys! I wonder how Van Gogh would feel if he saw me swishing about using his painting to cover my lower body.  I'm sure if he was alive, he'd be totally thrilled and be tweeting/instagramming/facebooking this momentous occasion. You're very welcome, Vincent.

Anyway, thanks for reading, remember, art is good for the soul so go get yourself some paperclips and start deconstructing.

Candy

Dress: ASOS
Have you ever wondered who designs carpets?
Bag: Gracious Aires (Similar here and here)
Shoes: Charles & Keith
Necklace: Gift (Same here) | Rings: ASOS (Similar here, here, and here). Watch: Swatch (Similar here)
As I daintily pranced about in today's outfit (read: stomped about the supermarket enjoying the air conditioning), I thought I looked a bit like cotton candy which reminded me of the Mandy Moore song 'Candy'. The music video had her sitting in pastel coloured Volkswagon Beetles singing about how some dude is sweet like candy, or something. This video made me a) want a Beetle, b) eat a lot of gummy bears, and c) want to give myself an alliterative pop star name.

Anyway, I've come to the conclusion that baby pink and pastel accents make me look a bit younger and as the chairperson of the anti-ageing club for vainpots, you can expect to see me in pink from now on.

Thanks for reading, as the song goes, it's like sugar to my heart. (DIABETES????)

Greetings! I had a three day business trip to KL again and I was feeling really lazy to do the whole mix and match shebang so I decided to keep things really simple. I think black and white make a great easy combo and mostly black outfits mean that even if I spill something on myself (this happens frequently), it won't show up.

And then I decided that a good way to make it look like I had really thought it through was to pretend I had a running theme - Bows. So yes. basically, lazy fashion because packing can be a chore and I am a clumsy butt.

Thanks for reading, I missed you too!

Stiff competition

Dress: ASOS (Similar here and here) | Shoes: Repetto (Similar here)
Who wore it better? Me...
... Or this vase?
Stag ring: Flea market find from Cyn (Similar here) | Bracelets: Dorothy Perkins (Similar here)
Bag: Vintage Celine from Cyn (Similar here)
I'm generally quite passive aggressive but a little healthy competition once in a while is good for me. It's always a good push to make me try to improve myself. For today's outfit, I guess I was competing with a Chinese vase. It's a tough fight:

Flattering the figure - Vase has curves, Alex needs a push-up bra.
Vase: 1 Alex: 0
Effort - Alex has a stag ring that can poke eyes out. Vase is a vase.
Vase: 1 Alex: 1
Overall polish - Vase has a smooth sheen, Alex can't wear nail polish because her nails will break off and great sadness will overwhelm her.
Vase: 2 Alex 1

VASE WINS! Thanks for reading, I hope you were rooting for the animate creature (me, not vase).

Struggle

Shirt: Rope Collection (Similar here) | Skirt: Vero Moda
Lemon clutch: New Look
Necklace: Twentyeight Lane (Similar here) | Ring: Vincci (Similar here)
Shoes: Far East Plaza (Can't find anything really similar but these are fun)
Hello! While you were probably struggling to get out of bed this morning because you were up late watching the World Cup finals, I was struggling to find an outfit that matched. Clearly I failed. I decided to give up the fight for matchymatchy coordination and go in the opposite direction. Boss man said the shirt and skirt didn't go well together but all I hear is 'avant garde' la la la la I can't hear you.

Thanks for reading, hope you weren't too late for work today. But if you were, and your boss got mad, just tell him/her 'la la la la la I can't hear you'. Totally works.
