The return of the Jedi

Hello!

I've had a bit of a hiatus from posting because I've been really busy... But mostly because I'm extremely lazy. But I'm back! I think instead of an OOTD (Outfit of the Day) kinda situation, I'm going to be doing some OOTM (month) because omg so lazy I just want to look like a slob and eat KFC and never exercise and just be a butt.

In the time I was away, a couple of things happened...
1. Blogger did some upgrade and now I can drag and drop directly into my draft post. Err. Thanks I guess?
2. Nacho celebrated his 2nd year anniversary being a resident of Jervois and a resident of my heart (awwww)
3. A close friend got knocked up... Lol that makes it sound bad but ok she's preggers and she's happy about it.
4. Another close friend spawned... Also happy about it. The baby is very cute and I got a first month celebration cake (I love cake).
5. There were a bazillion tragedies in the world that really makes our collective hearts break (Syria, Paris, USA... The list goes on)
6. I bought a motherfrickin apartment!

I wanted to end the list with the happy thing because it would be a real Debbie downer move to be all death and destruction in a blog post that's generally pointless.

Anyhoodle, I hope you've enjoyed the break from me (I'm lying. I hope you were miserable and pining for my return). We're closing in on Christmas which means presents, food, and hopefully all the love and joy in the world to make you feel like your heart could explode with happiness and to make your cheeks cramp from all the smiling.

Thanks for reading friends. I've missed you.

Hello! Sorry for the hiatus! I was super busy with work and then I flew off to Italy for a short one and a half week vacation. I'm just back and wanted to say hello and thanks for reading if you have been... If you haven't, then you should. Because I think I'm hilarious. No? :(

Anyway, a post or two about Italy/Munich will soon follow as it was such a beautiful trip filled with non-hazy air, shimmering snow-capped mountains, love, a variety of alcohol, sumptuous food and tons of cute animals!

Ciao for now and thanks for reading!

Feed me

I'm not big on body-hugging attire mostly because while I think I'm past that whole body image disorder business, I still feel a slight pressure to suuuuuuck it all in when I'm in form fitting clothes. However, I'll make exceptions on occasion especially when the print of the skirt is super duper cute (like above).

I'm all for body positivity and being comfortable in my own skin, but I think a lot of that starts from within. I choose to eat a little more healthily these days because I know that age and metabolism are my enemies and I fight them so I know that I'll be happier in the long run.

Aside from some basic exercise, I try to eat more vegetables and fibre and cut down on food with high sugar and fat content on weekdays, while letting myself enjoy life a little (okay, a lot) on weekends.

Here are some of my suggestions for eating relatively healthier if you work in the CBD area:

Do Si Rak: So I just found out about this little joint in China Square Central but according to the owner, it's been around for more than 6 months. It offers Korean style white rice boxes in a cute little package and you just need to shake it up with the lid on to mix the delicious ingredients in. They've worked with a nutritionist to ensure each box is less than 500 calories and filled with awesome stuff. Each bowl costs about $8 to $9 but for a little extra, you can change the white rice to whole grain rice or Korean buckwheat noodles. There's limited counter style seating and I normally order the soy sesame chicken box to go.
So much yummy
It comes in cute packaging!
Pre-shaking
Shake it like a polaroid picture
Sumo Salad: This is from Raffles City so it requires some walking to get to.  It's just a stall in the basement so there isn't any seating available but they have lots of options and like most salad places, they have customisable salads but unlike most places, they also offer sumo bowls (heated quinoa, brown rice, veg, and a protein bowls) which I big time love because I prefer my food hot not cold. The salads are like $6 - $10 depending on the size of the container and the sumo bowls are only in 2 sizes (small and big) and it's $9.50 or $10.50 respectively but they really pack it in so it's quite filling.

Munch: This salad shop is a franchise and the one I go to operates out of the food court in China Square. They have a bunch of options including sandwiches and breakfast foods but I normally stick to the 1 protein + 2 sides which costs $10.90. I normally have the John Dory fish, some quinoa (if available or brown rice) and a vegetable. They have a lot of options but of course they add up of you like a lot of variety. Since it's in a food court, seating is available but it gets crowded during lunch hours.
I didn't eat both meals
109 Yong Tau Foo: Mousie introduced me to this joint along Circular Road and it is motherfreaking delicious I think they put drugs and voodoo magic into this soup (Or possibly just MSG). I usually pick about 8 pieces and minimally three of which will be vegetables. They have this killer fried beancurd skin which they fry before putting into the soup but obviously if you're trying to be clean, you should forgo that. But you'll regret it. Because it is dynamite.I don't order any rice or noodles but rather just eat the pieces and drink the soup. The place gets really crowded but there is an air-conditioned upper level to sit at as well as lower level tables outdoors (which I only recommend if you don't perspire or you don't care if you perspire).
So many options!
Fried beancurd get into ma belly
The Healthy Society: This little cafe at Clifford Centre is tucked away at the corner on the second floor but it's probably quite well known because it gets pretty crowded. It doesn't have that much seating and they really cram you in there but for a set meal of a soup, a (small) salad and a main for between $9 - $14, it's quite worth it. You can choose between brown rice or lemony spaggies (which is honestly a stupid sounding abbreviation for 'spaghetti') to accompany your main protein. I almost always choose the Coriander Dory but I also really enjoy the over roasted chicken. The soup is usually a soup of the day so you don't get a choice but usually it's decently yummy.
Dooooooorrrrrrrryyyyyyy
Aight, so those were my top 5 healthier options for the CBD area. I hope you're feeling hungry.

Kiss and tell

So guess what? This post is going to be both a fashion and a travel post. Because this is my blog and I make the rules. And in fact, I'm not even going to try to link the clothes to the fact that I went to Rawa over the weekend because the segway would probably be something like "oh see these lips, they remind me of kissing, which reminds me of the time when my classmate had mono, which is also known as the kissing disease, and sometimes there are diseases in the tropics, and wait what was I talking about, forget it. RAWA!"

RaWAAAAA so nice!
As per Wiki, "Rawa Island is a coral island off the east coast of Johor, Malaysia, 16 km by boat from Mersing town". It's 16km by boat and if you were in a boat like ours, it would take about a half hour but would feel approximately like 3 hours in hell. My motion sickness isn't great and after about 4-5 hours in a rented mini-van from Singapore to Mersing, it felt like MURDERRRR.
Thank you for your warm welcome
There are only 2 resorts on the island, the side with aircon, warm water and an intense water slide, and the side without. We stayed on the side without and I thought I was really going to be roughing it out but you know what? It was totally comfortable. And now because I love listing points:
  1. The room was shared between four of us but it had plenty of space and we had a balcony area to hang out on
  2. There was sweet, glorious electricity, and multiple fans to keep us cool
  3. They provided amenities like body soap and mosquito coils
  4. There was desalinated (but still kinda salty) water for showering
  5. Wifi, though not super strong and stable, was available at the lounge area
  6. They provided plenty of yummy food every meal and pretty much had every kind of beverage for sale
  7. I only got one mosquito bite the whole trip (2 nights, one full and a half days) and no sandfly bites. This is a miracle which means my voodoo magic is working and you'll soon be worshipping me as a goddess.
  8. Who needs a slide anyway?
Super important dream catcher so we don't get nightmares. Bonus sexy legs.
If you're looking for a chilled out beach getaway where you can sleep and eat, Rawa is the pefect place for you! There's not that much to do there to be honest. The following are things I did:
Took selfies
Got drunk, danced a bit, vomited, fell asleep in a hammock
Climbed a hill (Thanks to Jakie for this and the next pic)
Went for a dip in the sea. I cropped this because my friend's butt was also in the pic and I didn't want to invade her butt privacy
Disturbed the resort dog Daisy who wouldn't stay still long enough for a proper picture
Mimicked the sound of peacocks: kinda like a screaming cat
Read a book in a hammock
The resort also lends snorkeling and kayaking equipment for free, and there's a volleyball net and balls for the brave (honestly, the thought of playing volleyball in a bikini is just horrifying. There's no support for the ladies!!) and they also have a bunch of books and magazines for people to borrow.

And if you needed more persuasion to make Rawa your next weekend getaway...
Friend time!
Some more helpful hints:
  1. You can arrange for transport from Singapore, across the causeway to the Mersing jetty with the resort if you don't already have your own transport.
  2. Bring sunblock, the sun is cray.
  3. Get your ringgit ready because it's cash-only
  4. The resort has all kinds of food and drink and they will charge you tax or corkage for any alcohol you bring, not that they'll search your bags or anything but honesty is the best policy y'all
  5. If you have leftover alcohol, you can bring it back to Singapore but it should preferably be opened already so you won't have to pay tax for it
  6. Bring a spare change of clothes for after the ferry ride back. For some reason, the ferry that brought us back had zero cover and the driver went so fast that we were drenched by the time we reached the jetty. I ended up having to change into my pajamas for the mini-van ride back to Singapore because I had no clean dry clothes left.
Thanks for reading! I hope you'll enjoy Rawa as much as I did!

I'm sure I've mentioned before that the momster is a food hoarder, right? I'm always secretly (or not so secretly) chucking her food out because seriously just because it's frozen doesn't mean it's still edible omg woman get a grip. She thinks that the freezer is a magical paradise for food where nothing bad ever happens. So I make fun of her a lot.

Well, the momster went to Laos to do some charity and some sightseeing and clearly the joke's on me, I poisoned myself with my own food. I made some pasta and then had the leftover pasta the following day. Within 2 hours, I was retching. So basically, karma is a biatch. And I can't cook.

Love your moms guys, and don't make fun of your mom because it doesn't end well. Thanks for reading!

My goodness this is a matchymatchy outfit. It actually wasn't so matchy in real life but in photos I look like I am obsessed with blue and orange and if I don't wear ALL the blue and orange in the world, a great plague will come and wipe us all out and the earth will be filled with zombies eating brains and drooling, and bugs will be the size of cars and we'll all be pretty much screwed.

Hmmm. What is my point? Oh I didn't have one.

Thanks for reading! Zooooooooooooooooommbieeeeeee waaaaaaaaaants braaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaainsssssss.
