Klutz

I've been experiencing some extreme klutz (do we still use this word? I feel like I never hear people say it anymore) moments lately...

Naked tumble
I was taking a shower when one of the bottles on the shelf started to fall (because I knocked into it). I tried to catch it and lost my balance and fell down SPLAT in the shower. I giggled so hard because I found the whole situation hilarious, and I had so much trouble hoisting myself up again. Thankfully I didn't break my hip.

The invisible ring
I was wearing a new ring that my friend Mellie had given me for Christmas. I went to wash my cup at the office pantry, and removed the ring while washing. I put the ring back on after and then went back to my desk. Half an hour later, I thought to myself 'Oh shoot, where's my ring?', and ran back to the pantry to check. Yup, the ring was still on my finger.

A new way to ingest coke light
Having dinner, someone passed me some bee hoon and while greedily spooning it onto my plate, I tipped over my full cup of coke light, which then spilled onto the table and onto my lap. Instead of immediately jumping up and getting away from the mess, I said 'Oh shoot! I have coke on me!' and then kind of turtle crawled up out of my seat.

So, photo taking needs to be seated from henceforth!

Confidence

My sister Mousie came back for the holidays and as part of our sisterly bonding, she arranged a facial for both of us at her regular facial therapist when she's in Singapore - A Confidence. Ok it's pretty chingchongcheenapiang sounding but they use Guinot products and speak in good English so let's get past that.

There are 3 ladies who run the place:
  • The elderly proprietor whom I shall refer to as Momma
  • The daughter of Momma
  • The lady who may or may not be related but was in charge of slathering my body with oil and massaging it. I'll call her the Masseuse.
My sister had really sold me on the various facial activities that would happen but I really wasn't prepared for such an experience. We went to this small little shop in RELC and were ushered into the back room by the Daughter. The back room is basically one larger room, separated by curtains. Inside the room were Momma and Masseuse, sitting in wait to apply various liquids to my face.

I was told me to remove my top and lay down. I'm not shy so I just took it off, bra and all, but it was kind of strange to be removing one's clothes in front of 3 strangers who were just sitting there, looking.

Momma then started the facial and I'd like to describe it in full details but honestly there were SO many applications of so many things that I actually lost count. Also, I had some kind of wet tissue placed over my eyes so I couldn't see anything and had to just experience various sensations.

Some notable moments include:
  • The vibrator for my eyes. Yeeeeaaaah I know how that sounds but I don't know what it was, but they placed it above my closed eyes and it was vibrating.
  • The steamer which would suddenly eject warm steam to my face which was actually quite pleasant but it made me giggle because I wasn't expecting it
  • The extraction which the Daughter did for me and was the most pleasant extraction I've ever had because normally it feels like I'm being attacked with a needle.
  • The zapzap machine which was like two metal spatulas being rolled around my face while giving very very slight static shocks. It wasn't uncomfortable and it was so light I wasn't sure it was actually happening or whether it was my imagination.
  • The squid.
I have to go into detail about the squid because it was hilariously weird. There were 4 strips of what felt like a heavy squid being laid on my face. It was room temperature and I guess it was like a mask of some sort, then the Daughter (I think) started rolling some kind of super cold rolling stick (maybe) thing over the squid which would actually make the cold go through the squid and feel like liquid nitrogen was being applied to my face.
Anyway, during the entire facial, the masseuse was giving my arms and legs a massage, and after massaging each limb, she'd apply a warm liquid that felt like it had bits of wet tissue paper in it, then wrap the limb in plastic. Strange but also quite relaxing.
Momma asked me if I fell asleep at any point during the facial but I definitely didn't because there was just so much happening and I'm pretty sure I felt like how a baby first out of the womb feels, like omg what is this what is that is this real life what is going on????
After all these experiences, I'd say my skin looks not bad, although I don't think I have bad skin to start with. The treatment, as a first timer, cost about $60 with an additional cost for the leg massage (Mousie treated so I don't know the actual cost). It's generally pricey, but it's a 2 hour non-stop experience session for about $120 I think so not too shabby if you hate facials where they leave you in a cold room with a mask on your face and you're left to only your thoughts.
Good to consider if you feel like normal facials are just too run of the mill or if you feel like you need to know what expensive cold squid on the face feels like.
Thanks to Mousie for the treat and to A Confidence for giving me the confidence to strip in front of 3 strangers, and for you, for reading all the way to the end!

So I had a spontaneous photoshoot with my friend Samson, a freelance photographer and designer, and I gotta say, the photos are awesome! The photos above (and more that I didn't show) were taken by Samson in the span of 30 minutes and I'm impressed with how chill and fun it was to shoot these even though I was bloody sweating buckets. Mad props to him as I don't look sweaty, plus he's made me look so much cooler than I actually am and I look like a freaking angel because of the way the sun hits me. I love it big time.

Samson does a whole range of photography and you can check out his work at his website 7braidstrong.com or follow his 7braidstrong insta account. Follow him and hire him to photograph your events. I promise you won't be disappointed.

Putting the vet to the test

Hello and Happy New Year!

I hope you had a great time over the Christmas and New Year break.

So I was in search of a vet to do Nacho's dental cleaning, not that my previous vet Dr. Boon from Town Vets isn't any good, but I felt that the clinic was pretty pricey so I thought I would try another clinic.

Being a bit of an overprotective pet owner, I decided that I'd do some research on Dr Tan Eng Khim from Vets@RV. There really wasn't much written up about him except for 2 posts in Pets Channel that said he's a good doctor for rabbits. I also did some research on where he went to get his Vet degrees and was sufficiently satisfied so I made an appointment for a pre-dental treatment consultation.

Any pet owner will know - Pets are hella expensive. Consultation lasted about 30 minutes and it cost me 45 bucks! Dr Tan was quite thorough in explaining the whole process but you know, sometimes it's like kind of overwhelming so all I can recall now is that he said Nacho would be put on Methodone so I think my dog may be a meth addict now. He also mentioned Isopropyl and about Michael Jackson's demise from an overdose of it. Okayyy man. Way to put me at ease.

Unlike Town Vets, the clinic smells quite strongly of animals which was kind of a bummer for me since I'm really fussy about cleanliness and smell, but the thing that convinced me to continue on was that I felt like Dr Tan did try to go through the whole process with me step by step, and give me a science lesson so two thumbs up for that. Also, he seems really earnest and well-meaning so I guess I was put at ease, despite the smell and also despite the fact that their webpage is a little... amateur. (Sorry man, just being brutally honest).

We scheduled the dental appointment for two days later and I can't say Nacho happily trotted in at all, (not because of the specific vet but because he just knows the vet is where he gets poked and prodded) and he was pretty out of it the rest of the day after the treatment, but a day after, with the anesthesia and meth out of his system, he's back to his old energetic self, but this time, with nice fresh breath.  I however, am down $379 so clearly less energetic. I think after all my fussing over it, the truth is, the cost of the medical equipment and mad drugs are probably the costliest components. I guess I'd go back to Vets@RV since I think they do seem quite thorough, but maybe if they could just... Febreeze a little bit?

Anyway, long story short: My New Year's resolution is to care for my dog's teeth better so I don't have to put him through this scary procedure annually.
