In today's fast paced world, it's hard to find someone to love, to cherish, to belong to. With this rapid explosion of people, most of whom are glued to their phones, tablets, laptops - it's hard to actually find the 'one' and connect to him or her in a meaningful, non-filtered way. Take the story of this woman for example, who, after having dated someone for about 6 months, ended up losing her dog!

I would seriously go batshit insane if someone stole Nacho. I would totally do the routine from Taken and I would hunt that son-of-a-B down and DESTROY him. Fortunately, I'm not playing the swinging singles game so the whole Tinder, Match.com, OkCupid, Paktor game isn't for me, although I think some people have been pretty lucky with it, except for lady mentioned above of course!

Anyway, I hope that if you're enjoying the singles game, you'll be careful and take every precaution to safeguard your pooch/cat/hamster/snake/imaginary pet/etc.

Camera un-ready

I've had some pretty crappy luck lately - the boo's brother was thinking of selling his Canon EOS DSLR camera and I'd seen his really nice fancy pics taken using this camera so I asked to try it out for a week. I took it home on a Sunday evening and wanted to use it the next day to take my OOTD pics (for the uninitiated, that's outfit of the day) but firstly, I didn't put in the SD card, and secondly... I found out that somehow, I broke the lens. Yup. I spoiled the zoom and auto-focus function within 24 hours without even using the camera. Just. Wow.

I've been particularly emo about this whole thing but obviously I wasn't going to return him a broken camera so it's mine now, and I've bought a new lens but we're in the testing phase so please excuse the teething problems. Actually, the pictures taken here are using the broken lens but I ended up buying a cheaper 50mm 1.8 lens (I have no idea what this means, I'm just acting smart, the boo's brother just told me what to get because I'm useless) so get ready for some bokeh (seriously what are all these words???)!

So just a tip for the camera noob - DON'T DO ANYTHING. Although it still might get spoilt... So I would suggest you just don't get into it at all and save some money and maybe go find a new hobby.

Bananas

Dress: Chicnova | Shoes: Aldo (Similar here) | Sunglasses: Ray Ban

So I had already written this post and then when I went to edit it, the whole draft went totally bonkers and I had to delete it all. Some could say that the post went totally bananas. HURHURHUR.

I used to be quite concerned about how people saw me but nowadays I'm really pleased to let my freak flag fly and just be all out bananas so I thought it'd be cool to have a banana dress and a banana phone cover. Do you think the Sophia Webster banana shoes would be too much?

Pic from here
What's not to love about bananas? They are high in potassium which is good for something... I think... And they are super delicious as an afternoon snack and can be made into a kickass chocolate banana cake that is making me drool just thinking about it.

Also, the word 'bananas' has a lot of the letter A in it and we all know that A is the best letter because A is for Alex. YAY!

So eat some bananas, wear some bananas and then go bananas! Thanks for reading!

BREAKING NEWS: My toe nail has healed.

Remember when I told you I had the super disgusting toe fungus of death? Well, I don't have it anymore so I would like to confirm that Fungus Fix works (YAY and PHEW cos that shizz is expensive). I know it's kind of hard to believe since I didn't show you a before pic and now here's a pic of a seemingly normal toe (can't say the same about the owner of said toe. Who in their right mind takes photos of their toes and puts it on the internet???), but just trust me. It works. Previously, the toe nail was discoloured and had a big yellowish-whitish-disgustingish blob on the nail bed. After applying the stuff to the nail bed (I would squeeze a drop where the nail meets the skin on the tip of the toe) consecutively for about 14 days, the fungus started going byebye... But how you might ask?

My toenail started breaking off at the bit where the fungus was, then the fresh unfungusy part continued to grow until it became the normal toenail you see here today. It's all very scientific and I shan't bore you with details but I was surprised because I thought it would just kill the fungus but I guess the nail itself was dead and had to go.

And now, some tips to prevent nail fungus so you won't have to go and spend $40++ on fungus fix.
  1. Be clean - wash your hands and feet regularly.
  2. Stump those nails - keep them short and dry
  3. Deal with sweat - if you have sweaty feet, wear absorbent socks
  4. Don't pick - as tempting as it is, stop picking at the dried skin around the nail bed.

So moist

How would you categorise your skin? Oily? Dry? Combination? Explosive? Warring? My facial therapist used to always say that my skin is very dry. I'm not sure what she's seeing because I always thought it was kind of oily. Anyhoodle, dry skin is bad because it means wrinkles and wrinkles are bad because it means I'll look old and that's bad because I'm vain. I think you get the drift.

My friends JF and D introduced me to something awesome - Laneige's Water Sleeping Mask and since using it, my facial therapist has concluded that my skin is 'not so dry anymore' which I guess means it's working and I'm going to have youthful skin forever and ever or something.

As the name suggests, it's a mask that you wear to sleep. It's like a clear gel that you apply (I lightly apply it) and let it dry, kind of like a moisturiser I guess. But since the package says it's a mask, I'll just believe them. Since it dries clear, it doesn't stain your pillows or anything. I wash it off in the morning and I can actually feel the bounciness of my skin after so I do think it's legit. I don't use it nightly but rather 2 or 3 times a week alternating between my regular night cream and this.

Anyway, if you're looking to add yet another thing into your beauty routine, I recommend this!

The awesome

Top: Padini (Similar-ish here) | Skirt: ASOS (Similar here) | Shoes: Charles & Keith (Similar here) | Clutch: DKNY (Similar here)
Sunglasses: ASOS (Similar here) | Earrings: Vintage (Similar here) | Bracelets: Old (Similar here and here) | Rings: Old and vintage (Similar here and here)

I would like to announce something.

I am AWESOME.

I know I'm biased and it might seem rather egotistical but I think that you should think you're awesome too. It's important to have self-confidence and to re-affirm your beliefs of awesomeness because that breeds positivity and hopefully that positivity will be spread to those around you. With all the bad juju out there in the world, wouldn't it be better if we could share the awesome and spread it around?

Maybe you're having a crappy day - you spilled coffee down the front of your white dress, you tripped on a non-existent crack in the pavement, you got attacked by a clown, whatever it is, you're having a poo-day, I urge you to think about the awesome things that you do, no matter how small, because those small things all add up and make you awesome.

My affirmations today from small to big:
  1. I am awesome because instead of taking the elevator, I walked 5 flights of stairs. Exercise complete.
  2. I am awesome because the jerkwad driving ahead of me cut into my lane abruptly then proceeded to drive really slowly but I didn't go absolutely bananas (I only swore once!)
  3. I am awesome because I completed a project in a swift and effective manner. (Fingers crossed I didn't make any mistakes!)
  4. I am awesome because for the first time ever I feel like I've got my life in order.
  5. I am awesome because I am loved and I have love to give.
Also, my coke light recognises my awesomeness.

Summer greens

It's summer all year long in Singapore so I guess The Summer Kit from Net-a-Porter is perfect for me! I've just gotten my grubby paws on it but I'm really pleased so far.

Fancy package is fancy
SURPRISES INSIDE!
All the goodies inside smell so good, I am sure I will smell like a mixture of baked chocolate cookies, fields of lilacs and a warm summer breeze.
Good thing there's a manual.
They're all sampler size so I can test out the products and figure out what I want to phase into my daily regular routine.
I want you and you and you and you and you
They are great for bringing on vacation. I know a lot of people take the toiletries from the hotels they visit but since I don't stay at fancypants hotels, I often find the toiletries at my disposal a bit abrasive and not very luxurious. I will totally bring these and go full spa service on myself. If vacation time is not the time to be pampered, then I don't know when is.
Moooooooooooooore!!!
I hope you're having a fantastically pampering summer, thanks for reading!

Feed me

I'm not big on body-hugging attire mostly because while I think I'm past that whole body image disorder business, I still feel a slight pressure to suuuuuuck it all in when I'm in form fitting clothes. However, I'll make exceptions on occasion especially when the print of the skirt is super duper cute (like above).

I'm all for body positivity and being comfortable in my own skin, but I think a lot of that starts from within. I choose to eat a little more healthily these days because I know that age and metabolism are my enemies and I fight them so I know that I'll be happier in the long run.

Aside from some basic exercise, I try to eat more vegetables and fibre and cut down on food with high sugar and fat content on weekdays, while letting myself enjoy life a little (okay, a lot) on weekends.

Here are some of my suggestions for eating relatively healthier if you work in the CBD area:

Do Si Rak: So I just found out about this little joint in China Square Central but according to the owner, it's been around for more than 6 months. It offers Korean style white rice boxes in a cute little package and you just need to shake it up with the lid on to mix the delicious ingredients in. They've worked with a nutritionist to ensure each box is less than 500 calories and filled with awesome stuff. Each bowl costs about $8 to $9 but for a little extra, you can change the white rice to whole grain rice or Korean buckwheat noodles. There's limited counter style seating and I normally order the soy sesame chicken box to go.
So much yummy
It comes in cute packaging!
Pre-shaking
Shake it like a polaroid picture
Sumo Salad: This is from Raffles City so it requires some walking to get to.  It's just a stall in the basement so there isn't any seating available but they have lots of options and like most salad places, they have customisable salads but unlike most places, they also offer sumo bowls (heated quinoa, brown rice, veg, and a protein bowls) which I big time love because I prefer my food hot not cold. The salads are like $6 - $10 depending on the size of the container and the sumo bowls are only in 2 sizes (small and big) and it's $9.50 or $10.50 respectively but they really pack it in so it's quite filling.

Munch: This salad shop is a franchise and the one I go to operates out of the food court in China Square. They have a bunch of options including sandwiches and breakfast foods but I normally stick to the 1 protein + 2 sides which costs $10.90. I normally have the John Dory fish, some quinoa (if available or brown rice) and a vegetable. They have a lot of options but of course they add up of you like a lot of variety. Since it's in a food court, seating is available but it gets crowded during lunch hours.
I didn't eat both meals
109 Yong Tau Foo: Mousie introduced me to this joint along Circular Road and it is motherfreaking delicious I think they put drugs and voodoo magic into this soup (Or possibly just MSG). I usually pick about 8 pieces and minimally three of which will be vegetables. They have this killer fried beancurd skin which they fry before putting into the soup but obviously if you're trying to be clean, you should forgo that. But you'll regret it. Because it is dynamite.I don't order any rice or noodles but rather just eat the pieces and drink the soup. The place gets really crowded but there is an air-conditioned upper level to sit at as well as lower level tables outdoors (which I only recommend if you don't perspire or you don't care if you perspire).
So many options!
Fried beancurd get into ma belly
The Healthy Society: This little cafe at Clifford Centre is tucked away at the corner on the second floor but it's probably quite well known because it gets pretty crowded. It doesn't have that much seating and they really cram you in there but for a set meal of a soup, a (small) salad and a main for between $9 - $14, it's quite worth it. You can choose between brown rice or lemony spaggies (which is honestly a stupid sounding abbreviation for 'spaghetti') to accompany your main protein. I almost always choose the Coriander Dory but I also really enjoy the over roasted chicken. The soup is usually a soup of the day so you don't get a choice but usually it's decently yummy.
Dooooooorrrrrrrryyyyyyy
Aight, so those were my top 5 healthier options for the CBD area. I hope you're feeling hungry.
