I like this dress because it reminds me of this:

Did you know that this is called a 'Test Card'??? I didn't. I wonder if this still pops up when there's no TV service. I feel like I should print these out and hold them up when I'm in the office and people are badgering me for things. I'll be all, 'sorry, no service, please try again later' and then try to hypnotise them with the pattern. 'You will bring me a coffee and a bagel and then leave me alone... and you are also getting sleeeeeeeepy.'

It's been a looooong two weeks. Not only have I not been actually watching any TV, I've also been working like a maniac. Anyway, what I really wanted to say is.... Look into the test card... You are getting sleepy... Give me all your money....Meh. It was worth a shot.

Loco for local

Dress: Uniqlo | Shoes: Linea Lidia by Luciano Padovan (Similar here) | Necklace: Modcloth | Ring: Gift from Wens (Similar here) | Sunglasses: Pieces

I wouldn't exactly call myself a music buff since I grew up in the era when Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys and Spice Girls were all the rage. I was and always will be a teenybopper. However, when it comes to local Singaporean music, I've been a strong supporter and I can proudly claim that I'm pretty sure I know when I hear something good.

Cheating Sons is a local band comprised of 5 core members and their recently launched self-titled second album has been on my playlist on repeat. Their music is a mix of rock, indie, country, folk, blues...I don't know because I'm not some music buff and genres are stupid but they meld all sorts of influences neatly into an album of tracks that are mostly upbeat and great to jump around to while also being ripe with emotions and filled with raw intensity should you feel like sitting down and being emo instead. My favourite track from the album is 'Honeymoon' which is actually not as romantic as the title might lead you to believe.

The English local music scene here has been dominated by a some familiar favourites like The Sam Willows, The Great Spy Experiment, and Electrico, to name a few. Cheating Sons, while having been in the scene for a while, has always seemed a little more underground but I think their sound is a welcome addition to the Singaporean music landscape and so I hope they make it big. Their experimental nature brings in unexpected sounds courtesy of violins, banjos, saxophones and trumpets (and other instruments) and this makes for such a unique listening experience.

I really urge you to check them out. If you think this is just some crappy paid review, you'd be mistaken because come on, musicians don't make any money in Singapore. You can follow Cheating Sons on their Facebook page to get regular updates on gigs and you can also purchase their albums on their websites.

Oh! One more thing! Also, please please please for the love of all things good and beautiful, check out Charlie Lim's music. The boo was playing it yesterday on Spotify and I'm basically in love now. His music is SO good.

In case you hadn't noticed...

Dress: Smooch the Label (Similar here)
Necklace: Modcloth
Clutch: Gift from Wendy (Similar here)
Sunglasses: Ray Bans
Ring: Gift from Wendy/Meimei (Similar here)
Shoes: Linea Lidia by Luciano Padovan (Similar-ish here)
The great thing about wearing a gigantic unique necklace is that it works as a great distraction from anything funky about oneself. Like if I had a big zit on my nose, I'm sure you wouldn't have noticed it. Because the necklace is all pickmechoosemeloveme.

Something I've noticed in my working life is that it seems common practice to be asked things like, 'why do you have a pimple?' and other such questions or comments based around one's appearance. I know it's a harmless question and isn't meant to be disparaging but it kind of comes off that way, don't you think? Believe me, I didn't choose to have that zit and unless you're able to make it magically go away by knowing its reason for being, I really don't want to have a conversation about it.

Anyway, just having one of those rambley pointless days. The boo and momster were both on vacation leaving me alone with my dog and with my thoughts so there were one too many monologue moments. I'm looking forward to talking to some humans again soon.

ARMPIT ALERT!

Ring: Gift (Similar here)
I've been a bit of a space cadet lately. I had these pictures saved in a draft format since last week and I forgot to post them. When the boo was taking the daily photos, I told him to take a close up of the floral appliques, but then I had a little bit of a conundrum. You see, that day, my friend started talking about how moisturising is very important in the battle against aging (SPOILER: We will lose the war) because it will delay the spread of wrinkles and that includes the wrinkles in the armpits. This obviously left me quite aghast as I have never ever even thought about those wrinkles and this floral applique photo is the basic introduction course to my armpit wrinkles.

I mean, seriously, I'm already having to think about the usual indicators of age - crows feets, saggy neck, pruned hands, veiny feet, and NOW I HAVE TO THINK ABOUT MY ARMPITS???? My god. I could not believe that moisturising the pits was a thing so I sent a picture of my unmoisturised armpit to my friend, who then sent a picture of hers back. Lo and behold, her arms did not have the unsavoury pit lines that mine have. In case you're squeamish about weird things like random fleshy body areas, skip the rest of this post...

Lip service

Sunglasses: Old (Similar here)

Bracelet: Similar here | Rings: Similar here and here
Bag: Kate Spade (Similar here)
Shoes: Rebecca Sanver (Similar-ish here)
My goodness this is a matchymatchy outfit. It actually wasn't so matchy in real life but in photos I look like I am obsessed with blue and orange and if I don't wear ALL the blue and orange in the world, a great plague will come and wipe us all out and the earth will be filled with zombies eating brains and drooling, and bugs will be the size of cars and we'll all be pretty much screwed.

Hmmm. What is my point? Oh I didn't have one.

Call a spade a spade

Top: Kate Spade
Skirt: ASOS
My legs look deceivingly muscular right??
Clutch: Kate Spade (Similar here) | Ring: Gift (Similar here)
Shoes: Rebecca Sanver (Similar-ish here)
So the Kate Spade Saturday shop had a launch event and my friend had an invite and asked if I'd like to attend. I immediately asked her, 'will there be sales?' She told me that it seemed to be more of a drinking-champagne-while-mingling kinda thing and since I am sometimes allergic to crowds and also because I was dressed like a cowpat, I decided I'd give it a miss.

Today's outfit was inspired by the event, I suppose this might have been what I would have worn had I been prepared to go and wasn't having such a turd of a day (I had gotten a speeding ticket and demerit points and had been disappointed by the fact that I clocked a crap time for my Great Eastern Women's Run).

But let's face it, the champagne-mingling wouldn't have been enough but I totally would have gone if they had big signs saying "SALE SALE EVERYTHING MUST GO" because I'm a bargain-hunting aunty.

Thanks for reading! Hope you don't feel like a turd.

Death of me

Dress: SD Collection (Similar here)
Scarf: Gift (Similar here)
Shoes: Marc by Marc Jacobs (Similar-ish here)
Bag: OG (Similar here) | Ring: Butler & Wilson (Similar here)
Earrings: Diva (Similar here)
All of yesterday's happy was kicked in the wazoo and my skulls-aplenty attire really suited the office mood. My poor colleagues are swamped. DEATH MURDER STABBY KILL. Big projects and deadlines are so last season ammirite?

Along with the death of my lunch plans, was the death of the shoes I wore today. As I walked to get my takeaway lunch, Marky-Mark (I christened them that, don't judge me) started ripping apart and I had to walk back barefoot. Ok, this post is turning waaaay too morbid. Here's a picture of a fat unicorn to make things better.

Craycray

The inspiration: my style crush nailing it as always. Pic taken from Atlantic Pacific
My take on the look. Pass?
Shirt: River Island | Skirt: Seed (Similar here)
Ring: Gift (Similar here) | Bag: Comme Des Garcon (Similar-ish here) | Shoes: Shoemint (Similar here)
Earrings: Hand me downs (Similar here)
I've been really taken by the stripes and floral combo, something about the whole clashy-matchy thing just makes me squeal like a happy little piglet. However, there's a thin line between clashy-matchy and clashy-ugly. I spent at least 20 minutes just looking at myself in the mirror this morning. Also, have you ever checked out your reflection in one mirror and then moved to another mirror to check, just in case? Yeah I might be weird. Not sure what surprises I was expecting.

D, my colleague (and friend - when I previously referred to her without the friend part, there were CONSEQUENCES) looked at me and said I looked crazy. I guess crazy is better than clashy-ugly?

Thanks for reading, here's to the crazies!

Fist bump bro! Ring: A gift from Mousie. Very love it, it's a poodle!
I had to jet off to KL again this week to attend a meeting and a workshop so instead of posting each night, I decided to combine it all as one big post. This is because I am computer illiterate and did not know how to connect my laptop to the hotel's internet. I am a disgrace to the Gen Y's.

Anyway, I had a couple of challenges packing for KL because I only wanted to carry a cabin sized luggage but I also wanted to fayshun it up. The following are my key tips for packing for business trips:
  • Pack low-heeled shoes/wedges for brisk walking because it is imperative to be able to outpace your fellow business travellers especially when it comes to the immigration queues. The faster you get in line, the faster you get to get into a cab for another long journey to the city centre, champion.
  • Wear a silicon watch for important time-checking. You are an important business person and your time is money so check frequently to see how much money is going to waste every time the people ahead of you dawdle. Sighing loudly is a general rule. A non-metal watch helps to prevent the metal scanning machine to loudly beep and waste precious seconds as someone pats you down.
  • Always pack clothes that don't need to be ironed. Or better, pack clothes that have that purposely crumpled look. Like a purposeful hipster hobo.
  • Bring a capelet and/or a shawl because it gets cold in airports and both are great for putting over your head to protect you from UV rays and weird stares as you fall asleep in the plane/car/meeting room.
Thanks for reading, don't you dawdle now!
