Masking my feelings

In case it wasn't already abundantly clear to you - I am hella vain. Aside from spending tons of clothes and accessories, I also spend lots on skincare. I mentioned before that I had a bout of acne and I remember feeling so self-conscious that I felt embarrassed to leave the house. In order to prevent myself from feeling like that again, whenever my skin decides to go all SPAAAARTTTAAAAAA on my face, or when I can be bothered to get off my lazy butt, I slather on a thick layer of my super awesome Kiehl's Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Masque for about ten minutes onto my semi-damp face, then wash it off with water. DEEP CLEANING POWER ACTIVATED.

It must be a fancy mask since it's spelled 'masque'

Obviously the effects aren't immediate but I honestly feel like it gives a nice deep clean, without stripping the skin of its moisture. My face feels nice and bouncy after.  Also, taking pictures of yourself rocking an awesome face mask and sending it to your friends and a family is a good way to bond.

So fresh and so clean
I ordered it direct from the Kiehl's US site and had it shipped to my brother-from-another-mother (Mousie's husband) who then brought it to Singapore because it's significantly cheaper to do so but Kiehl's is available in Singapore too so if you're in a rush for some deep cleansing, go buy it in-store now!

I put these photos in a draft state for a while and then decided to come back and blog it. Upon second look, I feel like I look kinda... large? I'm not saying I'm fat, but I definitely think I could tone up a little.

When I was in early secondary school, I had a body image disorder which made me go crazy about what I ate and how much I exercised. This was the typical Alex experience:

1. I would look in the mirror and see my flaws and get depressed
2. I'd exercise like a mad person (I jogged 3 or 4 times a week, swam the other days, and did 400 sit ups daily)
3. Starve myself (I once only allowed myself to eat an apple a day)
4. Get hungry like a mofo and binge
5. Feel bad
6. Repeat

In high school in Canada, that morphed into calorie counting and I would keep a food journal of all the things I ate, then feel bad about it. Also, it was really cold so I ate A LOT of chocolate muffins so you can imagine my guilt.

I can't recall how I snapped out of it but I think it was a combination of growing up and starting to like myself a bit more. (Who am I kidding? I LOVE MYSELF!)

Anyway, now I'm all for eating clean but giving myself some allowances, exercising regularly and not sweating the small stuff. Although seriously, I look kinda large in these photos, right???

While you might not be able to tell from my icy cool exterior, I’m actually big time hurting inside. Ok not really big time, but I’m having some feels. My baby cousin Dominic, who I call Nom, has left for university in the states where he’ll study something super nerdy about making games which will then reap him big money and I’ll basically want to mooch off him forever. Now if you’ve been keeping count, then you’d know that cousin Moo went to LA to be a film-producing, Mustang-driving, jam-making hippie, and sister Mousie has gone to New York to totally lose her sense of distance.

Mousie: It’s just like 4 blocks away, we can walk it

Me: Uhh, okay

98567KM later or 61246.694 miles

Mousie: See? That wasn’t so far!

Me: I can’t feel my legs.

So I am the last surviving family member of our generation still living in Singapore. Don’t get me wrong. I love it here, but do you know what this means for me during Chinese New Year???

I’m horrible when it comes to socializing, even with members of our extended family. I used to always have the others there as a buffer to my weirdness. Now that Nom is gone, I’m ALL ALONE. So I think as retribution for them all up and leaving like the big goons that they are, I’m going to claim all their angpow (red packet) money as my own. MUAHAHAHAHAHA.

Thanks for reading, and if you’re Mousie, Moo or Nom, SUCK IT GOONS. (Come home?)

Here comes the bride

The three not-so-blind mice
The beautiful bride and handsome groom
Sparkly amazingness plus emcees bringing some fierce Miss Universe style posing
Cheongsam time

A special edition post to commemorate a special day for a special person.

On Saturday, 9 August 2014, my best friend of 21 years, Nicole, got married to the love of her life in a beautiful and touching ceremony. I was so honoured to be a part of the celebrations as one of the bridesmaids and as an emcee for the dinner.

Words are not enough to describe how beautiful Nic was, and continues to be. More than anything, the love that was evident on both the bride and groom's faces was overwhelming and many joyful tears were shed at their union.

I wish the couple the very best, I am so happy they found one another and look forward to sharing more happy milestones with them.

The bride got both her bridal gown and evening gown from Dang Bridal
The bridesmaids dresses are from Love Bonito
The fabric of my cheongsam belonged to my dearly departed porpor. It was saved by aunty Cyn for a perfect occasion such as the wedding of my oldest and dearest friend. I had the cheongsam tailored at Elisa H&W International.

Delayed post this week because I declared a holiday for my brain to celebrate a friend's birthday on Friday night, a friend's marriage solemnisation and dinner and the impending lazy Sunday I felt entitled to after my busy week. Of course what this means is MORE OUTFITS! Yaaaaaayyy!!!

Thanks for reading, happy Hari Raya Puasa and yaaaaay for the long weekend!
