This is not the greatest song in the world. This is just a tribute.

Dress: Smooch the Label (comes with belt)
Bag: Gracious Aires (Similar here)

Sunglasses: Karen Walker

Earrings: Diva (Similar here)
Heels: ASOS (Similar here)
I wanted to write a lengthy and heartfelt tribute to the recently passed former Prime Minister of Singapore Lee Kuan Yew but it feels somewhat disrespectful to do so in a blog post about clothes so I've decided to just kinda touch on it without going full emo.

I also tend not to write about sombre and heavily emotional things because I've had enough of that in my life and I want to put out happy positive things. But I'd just like to tell you guys that I was very sad to hear of his passing - he was a remarkable man who became Singapore's first Prime Minister at the age of 35 which is just crazy. I'll be 35 in like, erm, some time, and I haven't done jack all. Well, I'm the President of the avid sleepers club but that's about it really.

So I'd just like to say, thanks Mr Lee Kuan Yew for everything you've done, and for the inspiration. You are irreplaceable and will be dearly missed.

The grand dame of fashion

Dress and belt: Smooch the Label
OHMAGERD why is it so hot?
Bag: Prada (Similar here) | Ring: Lovisa (Similar here)
Earrings: Vintage hand me downs (Similar here)
Shoes: Red Valentino (Similar-ish here)
The earrings I wore today belonged to my porpor (grandmother) who had a killer fashion sense, mad bod (23 inch waist yo) and an awesome personality that made her larger than life. I love vintage hand me downs because they're rich with history and feel pretty unique. I imagine Queen Elizabeth goes all giddy with glee every time she puts those crown jewels on her noggin.
Porpor with some serious Cara Delevigne brows
Unfortunately, porpor wasn't able to hang around too long because she lived fast and died young like some original YOLO hipster or whatever you young people call it nowadays. But she made a big impact in our lives and continues to leave a legacy, including some amazing pieces of costume and real jewellery that I'm greedily trying to get my paws on.

Thanks for reading, YOLO but seriously, don't smoke.

Shiny happy people

Top: Seed (Similar here)
Skirt: State of Being
Earrings: Vintage (Similar-ish here and here)
Ring: Can't recall (Similar here) | Bag: Balenciaga
Shoes: Tommy Hilfiger (Similar and waaay nice here)
I'm quite the magpie so a lot of my clothes are pretty shiny and/or embellished but it's not always so easy to wear bling to the office, because you risk being branded 'disco' and make people think you're on your way to a party after work (which might be viewed as somewhat hedonistic for a Tuesday night).

Here are my tips for keeping the magpie happy by incorporating bling into your work wear:
  1. Keep it neutral: If you're going to be shiny, don't be too patterned. That's just distracting and better for a retro party. If you're having a retro party, please invite me.
  2. Turn down the skank: Less skin, more bling. If you're in a tight, shiny, short skirt at your work place, you're probably doing a different sort of work than I am. No judgement yo.
  3. Embellishments are your friends: Embellished neckline tops are lovely because you don't need to think about what necklace to wear. Lazy person style for the win.
  4. Not ready to be Rihanna (ie. Shine bright like a diamond)? Try a shiny cellphone case. Also makes for an exhausting hobby if you want the challenge of making it yourself with teeny tiny diamantes.
  5. Do Elizabeth Taylor: Adorn yourself with jewellery so big and shiny you could be in a museum.

Fist bump bro! Ring: A gift from Mousie. Very love it, it's a poodle!
I had to jet off to KL again this week to attend a meeting and a workshop so instead of posting each night, I decided to combine it all as one big post. This is because I am computer illiterate and did not know how to connect my laptop to the hotel's internet. I am a disgrace to the Gen Y's.

Anyway, I had a couple of challenges packing for KL because I only wanted to carry a cabin sized luggage but I also wanted to fayshun it up. The following are my key tips for packing for business trips:
  • Pack low-heeled shoes/wedges for brisk walking because it is imperative to be able to outpace your fellow business travellers especially when it comes to the immigration queues. The faster you get in line, the faster you get to get into a cab for another long journey to the city centre, champion.
  • Wear a silicon watch for important time-checking. You are an important business person and your time is money so check frequently to see how much money is going to waste every time the people ahead of you dawdle. Sighing loudly is a general rule. A non-metal watch helps to prevent the metal scanning machine to loudly beep and waste precious seconds as someone pats you down.
  • Always pack clothes that don't need to be ironed. Or better, pack clothes that have that purposely crumpled look. Like a purposeful hipster hobo.
  • Bring a capelet and/or a shawl because it gets cold in airports and both are great for putting over your head to protect you from UV rays and weird stares as you fall asleep in the plane/car/meeting room.
Thanks for reading, don't you dawdle now!
