Posh

Top: Victoria Victoria Beckham (Similar here) | Pants: Uniqlo
Shoes: Zara (Similar here) | Clutch: DKNY (Similar here) | Ring: Jessica Buurman (Similar here)

Fashion is pain. This top might not look it but it's pretty tight because it's gathered around the waist and after a full meal, I was pretty much struggling to breathe. Oh Victoria B, you minx, you. Thank goodness your clothes are so expensive because if I wasn't struggling to save money, I would be struggling to keep away from your clothes while my ever expanding waistline would be struggling to stay within them.

Actually, it's not just this top... I can't fit into so many of my clothes (AAAARGH!!). Anyway, I'm on Carousell now because I've found that I just can't fit into so many of the things I used to wear and honestly, I'm not that hopeful that I'm ever going to be able to again. Coupled with the fact that I'll be downsizing to a much smaller place in a couple of years, I figure I might as well sell some stuff, and make a teeensy bit of money (seriously I sell it for cheap, LIKE $5-$15. I see people selling used dresses for $30 and I'm like WHATTTT WHO SPENDS THAT KIND OF MONEY??)  Anyway, if you feel like buying my stuff, check out my Carousell page, I promise it's in good condition!

Carefree

So I work with a few young temp staff, fresh out of school and waiting to go to university or find their first job, many of them have been wonderful and proactive and happy. But there have been a few who make me think "Ah, millenials" with a soft sigh and an upward roll of the eyes.

It's terribly exhausting because of 2 main things:
  1. They quit within a short span of time which means I have to go and get someone else to fill the role quickly and that means more paperwork
  2. It reminds me of my youth (so long gone, and dearly missed)
When I was younger - had better skin, had the ability to go out all night but still wake up feeling refreshed, and had the metabolism that deserves a bloody prize - I held down a couple of different jobs here and there including:

Sales assistant at DKNY and then Awfully Chocolate - both good experiences overall
Sales assistant at Tangs for Dr Hauschka - Not great, I quit after a day because I was a spoiled little brat who didn't want to go through the staff entrance because it was dark and smelled like smoke
Administrative exec for a publishing company - I was dumb and quit after a day because I'm a spoiled brat who didn't understand Excel. Much regret.
Door bitch - I did this for 5 years and it was pretty fun although so exhausting.

None of these jobs really prepared me for the real working world because I have a desk job and sit on my fat butt most days but I did learn some valuable lessons including:
  • Working with people can be tough - it's important to guard your heart and your secrets
  • Standing up for long amounts of time makes your leg veins become permanent residents
  • Having down to earth work friends can really make the job much more enjoyable (Hi to Zamri from DKNY, Sali and Azmi from Helipad!!)
  • Be nice to people in customer service and sales staff because omg it can be rough for them
Anyway, if I had a time machine and could go back in time and give young me some advice regarding jobs, it would definitely be not to give up quite so easily, over small dumb things, and also maybe to cut down eating so much chocolate ice cream and cake while working.

Heroic

I think I've mentioned close to a bajillion times how busy I've been of late hence the lack of regular posting, but I would like to mention it once again because I think my extreme busyness has become my super power. The ability to be really busy and frazzled and turn looking a mess into an Olympic sport.

Which got me thinking... About super powers. Because duh. That's way more fun than thinking about work.

If I were to ask you what super power you wish you had, what would you say? Ability to fly? Teleport? Read minds? Suuuuure all that is great, but what if you weren't allowed to have a cool super power? Which of the following would you choose if you were granted one mediocre power?

Introducing... The world's most mediocre hero!

Captain Buzzkill
Power: Able to sense and destroy mosquitoes in a 1km radius by uttering the word 'Zapzappow!'
Weakness: Extreme negativity which is literally a killer of people's buzzes. Also, Zapzappow does not work on other insects.

Pic from here
The cube
Power: Able to refreeze melted cubes of ice that you put in your drinks.
Weakness: Cannot freeze anything larger than a standard small ice cube, and anything other than water. Is kind of a b*tch to people.
Pic from here
Super Aid
Power: Can sense when someone has a paper cut or a blister, and appears to provide a band aid. Unlimited band aids!
Weakness: Cannot heal. Band aids not water resistant. Is rather nosy.

The songbird
Power: Able to recall any song and singer which is especially useful when you're sitting around in a group and someone's like "omg what is the name of that song, it's driving me crazy, what is the name of that song!?!"
Weakness: Tone deaf.

Miss Penny
Power: You know when you're out and you want to buy a drink and it's $2.40 and you have $2.30? Never fear, Miss Penny is here! She's always got that extra couple of cents whenever you need.
Weakness: She can't do international currency so she's useless on vacations.

So, who do you pick?

Aight back to thinking about work! Thanks for reading!

Busy

Shirt: Padini (Similar here) | Pants: Chicnova | Shoes: Topshop (Similar here) | Clutch: Sportsgirl (Similar here)
Spiked bracelet: Pop up shop (Similar here) | Skull bracelet: Butler & Wilson | Ring: Jessica Buurman

So after working for over three years in my current position, the time has come for me to broaden my horizons. I’ll be moving to another department within the company to take on a different marketing portfolio to learn a different side of the business and get more on-the-ground experience.  Doesn't that just sound so grown-up???

The only reason why I’m bringing this up is because it’s likely going to impact my blog a little. Judging by the various emails I’ve seen flying around, as well as my new boss’ description that the team is only ‘busy’ or ‘busier’, I think I will a) be really busy and not have much time to blog b) be really busy and not have time to dress up c) be really busy so I turn into an old hag and feel embarrassed to capture that on camera.

Nonetheless, I’m excited about my new role, I feel like I’m the kind of person who needs to be really busy and constantly juggling things, so I’m kind of pleased about all this. I will absolutely try my best to keep up with the blogging but it might take a little hit. Which is probably going to be good for the regular readers since I can be super annoying so maybe less is more eh?

Spot the difference

Cape-blazer: Smooch the Label | Pants: Uniqlo (Similar here)
Shoes: Prada (Similar here)
Bag: Gracious Aires (Similar here)
Ring: Twentyeight Lane
Sunglasses: Karen Walker
Shirt: Ann Taylor (Similar here)
Skirt: ASOS (Similar here)

Bag: RED Valentino (Similar here)

Pairing the cape blazer with a white shirt totally made me feel like a lawyer which would have been my dream profession if I was a whole lot less lazy. I think lawyers are having their 'in' moment now what with Amal Alamuddin Clooney (specialist in international law, criminal law, human rights, extradition and being George Clooney's way better half) gaining international acclaim for erm... Her Valentino outfits.  Le sigh.

I think I would make for a great litigator - Mostly because I enjoy arguing with people. (Ok this is a lie, I'm very passive aggressive but one can pretend to be assertive, right?). However, I once met an ex-schoolmate and I asked her what sort of law she practised, to which she replied, 'litigation' and without even a pause, she asked me if I knew what litigation was. *Coughcondescendingcough*.

Anyway, let's weigh the pros and the cons of being a lawyer (from the very little I know about law and lawyers)

Pros:
  1. George Clooney can become your husband
  2. You can wear Valentino outfits
  3. You can argue with people for money
Cons
  1. You might need to work with a certain condescending person

The local tourist

Shirt: Controlled Commodity
Pants: Uniqlo (Similar here)
Shoes: Converse
Bracelet: Quintessential (Similar-ish here)
Bag: Marni (Similar here) | Ring: Mango (Similar here)
Hat: Nasty Gal

Being a snobby snob face, I tend to have some elitist beliefs about the things we can find in Singapore, versus the things from overseas. For example, I think that Kit Kat from the UK > Kit Kat found in Singapore (I think it's made in Malaysia and before you get all what-a-bitch-she's-an-anti-Malaysia-and-Malaysians-butthole, please note that my father is Malaysian so let's not get so hyped up. Sheesh, you need to eat less chocolate).

However, I am not turning my nose up at this new local brand - Controlled Commodity makes understated shirts for men and women, and while my style is normally more akin to that of a mental patient, I was impressed with how well tailored the shirts are, and how flattering they are for a shorty like myself. So yeah, if you like well made shirts that aren't the usual run of the mill design (who wouldn't???), I'd definitely recommend you check them out.

Cape-blazer crusader

Cape blazer: Nasty Gal
Top: Banana Republic (Similar here) | Pants: Calvin Klein (Similar here)
Cuff bracelet: Old (Similar here) | Ring: Lovisa (Similar here)
Bag: Gracious Aires | Shoes: London Rebel
Earrings: Chinatown (Similar here)
I've been waiting for a day when the Singapore weather goes from Lucifer's raging inferno in the deepest corner of hell to Smaug's mouth after a burp, so that I can wear this awesome cape-blazer (Clazer? Blape?) because I honestly believe that my internal core temperature is higher than the average which leaves me feeling that an ice bath is the solution to all my problems most days. Can't find my pen? ICE BATH BABY.

While being quite enamoured of this crisp white clazer blape thing, I have to say that wearing all white can be such a pain in the wazoo. It basically means no laksa for lunch, always cap my pens immediately after use, drink coffee slowly through a straw, try not to snort while laughing... The list goes on forever. I've got some mad first world problems going on right here.

And don't get me started on the creases. I only looked crisp for maybe 10 minutes, after which my valiant efforts to look like Claire Underwood turned into an abysmal failure and instead I looked like a discarded piece of paper.
The dream: power suit fierce
The reality: me
So I guess the point of my whole ramble is... I may have forgotten to take my meds. Thanks for reading!

Once again, I feel like my brain is in deep space caused by the orbiting of the planet Weekendisuponus around the galaxy of the lazy bones, so this post probably isn't probably going to be fairly stupid. Consider yourself warned.

I've been a little bit irked today which got me thinking about the various things that irk me. The more I write 'irk' the funnier it looks to me.

I like these horizontal striped pants a lot, but over the course of the day, the sad-sack cotton material started stretching out which made it look baggy and ill-fitting. Fashion irk numero uno: Ill-fitting clothes.

Fashion irk number two: why must the scarf move about when I walk around, am I so jiggly that it can't stay put?? I'm not exactly doing aerobics here.

The last irk (for today) is shopping regret. There was a silky white printed top from Banana Republic that would have looked awesome with these pants and there was only a slightly larger size left and the boo was all nag nag don't buy things that aren't your size nag nag nag so I didn't buy it but now Major Regret has come to visit with General Whydidn'tyoujustgetitalteredyoudummy.

Thanks for reading, hope you aren't suffering from any of the irks. Irk irk irk irk irk irk. Wheeeee!
